Fact layer: blueprint

The plan for your facts

A written reference for your fact layer: what goes in it, how it is grouped, where each fact comes from and who keeps it accurate. It settles ownership before population starts, so each kind of fact has a named owner from the first day.

What's in it

  • The kinds of fact your organisation needs to hold, and how they are grouped
  • The source for each kind of fact
  • A named owner for each kind of fact
  • The rules for writing a fact down, so every one reads the same way
  • A structure diagram showing how the parts relate

How it's made

The blueprint comes out of fact layer design. We read what you already have, talk to the people who hold the knowledge and test the draft structure against the questions it has to answer. You review it with us before it is agreed.

It is written alongside the roadmap, which sets the order the structure is filled in.

How you use it

The blueprint is the reference for everyone who builds, fills or relies on the fact layer: your team, our team and anyone who builds an agent on it later. When a new kind of fact comes up, the blueprint says where it belongs and who looks after it.

It also sets the scope for fact layer population. If someone asks midway whether something belongs in the fact layer, the blueprint has the answer.
