Conservation International's website had become too focused on the organisation itself. With a wealth of past and current projects to draw on, the goal was to put storytelling front and centre, connect visitors directly to the work, and inspire belief that together we can protect the natural world for generations to come.
The new site puts the donor first, making clear their role in Conservation International's plans across three core areas people already care about: oceans, climate and biodiversity. New content formats, including video and other storytelling media, give staff the tools to speak to potential supporters directly.
Now powered by the Sanity Content Operating System, the site gives Conservation International the tools to deploy content rapidly across channels, with accessibility, speed, scalability and sustainability built in from the start.
Features

01
The homepage opens on CI's vision over full-screen film, then offers its three priorities, climate, oceans and biodiversity, as the ways in. Each leads to a story from the field, so a first-time visitor goes from the big picture to the work in one click.

02
CI's offices each run their own site, from Mexico and Brazil to Japan and Madagascar, in Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, French or English. We set up the studio so CI's teams build and run these sites themselves, sharing one design and media library.

03
Every story, project and article is tagged with the priorities it serves. Each priority page shows its own latest news from those tags, so nobody curates lists by hand and new content appears where it belongs.

04
Quotes from board members and donors, and press coverage such as National Geographic, are blocks editors can place on any page. That puts trust markers close to every donation prompt, where first-time donors are most likely to hesitate.

05
Short videos and audio from field staff are kept in the same media library as the site's photos and reports. A new clip can go on any page once it's uploaded, which keeps each priority page current.

06
Long-form stories are written in rich text with custom blocks for full-bleed photography, large figures, quotes and video. Editors build immersive stories in the CMS without a developer, and each one ends with a way to give.

07
The three priority pages share the same blocks, from the giving circles to the "multiply your impact" panel. The team can change them page by page as they test the strategy's ideas about what makes people give.
“This redesign brings our mission and impact to life for every visitor — whether they come to learn, give, or get involved — and illustrates through impactful storytelling how investing in nature delivers lasting benefits for climate, biodiversity, and the ocean”
