Knowing what you have and what it does
A content audit lists every page, document and PDF you publish and judges each one on what it does. It is the least glamorous phase of a website project, and the one that decides whether the new site has anything true to say.
Every page, document and PDF across your website and channels. For each one we look at who reads it, where it ranks and whether it does the job it was written for, then mark it: keep, improve, merge or retire. Alongside the inventory we note the gaps, the questions your audience asks that nothing you publish answers.
This is tedious work, and we plan for it. The audit is a named phase with its own place in the plan and its own deliverable, so it gets done properly.
We agree the rule for retiring content with you before we start. The first time a page is cut, someone will push back, and the rule settles it. On a website project, the audit feeds the content model and the migration plan. Its findings also go into your maturity assessment and lead into go-to-market strategy.
